Georgina Verbaan

At the age of 17 Georgina Verbaan became known by the general public for her recurring role in the tv series GTST. This role laid the foundation for her successful career in Dutch television, film and theatre. Known for her versatility, Verbaan has been part of numerous notable projects over the years.  

She was awarded the Beeld & Geluid award for Best Actress for her recurring role in the comedy musical show ‘t Schaep met de vijf Pooten, won a Gouden Kalf for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a volatile sex-worker struggling with addiction in De Marathon and landed the Gouden Kalf for Best Actress for her role in Oscar winner Mike van Diem’s The Surprise. A dark romantic comedy in which Verbaan got to showcase her joy of speaking foreign languages. In the hitseries Klem, a slow burner drama-thriller, Verbaan played the role of Kitty. The series was broadcast on Channel 4 as Blood Pact. This role earned her a Gouden Notenkraker. 

Her work in theatre includes the plays De Ingebeelde Zieke by Moliere with De Utrechtse Spelen, Oogverblindend by avant-garde (film) maker Cyrus Frischm (Frisch and Verbaan later teamed up with Rutger Hauer to make the play into the English language film Dazzle), Venus under direction of Johan Doesburgh and most recently The Second Woman created by Anna Breckon and Nat Randall. The mix of performance and video art saw Verbaan face a hundred different players to play one single scene over the span of 24 hours. 

Verbaan is also a voice actor and voice-over, having lent her voice to a great many animation films, tv-series, radio plays, documentaries and commercials. 

Her work as a writer includes fiction, columns and radio plays. She wrote a weekly column for newspaper NRC from 2013 to 2019. Collections of her best work were published in the books Loze ruimte (2016) and Iets om naar uit te kijken (2018).
